Why you need a professional make-up artist

Caroline Swaffield from Amazing Face, who did the make-up on the 2014/15 cover of Cotswold Bride, advises just why you should book a professional for your wedding make-up

When preparing for their wedding most women spend weeks, if not months choosing the right dress that flatters, complements their skin tone and makes them feel simply beautiful, and often the anticipation leading up to this event is as exciting as the event itself. We know that most women wouldn't dream of leaving this part of the proceedings until the last minute, but this seems to happen with sorting out your  hair and make-up for your big day and believe me your make up  is just as important
as that special dress and  photographer.

A professional  make-up artist will help you achieve the look you want through a consultation which includes trying several looks, we take into consideration your skin tone, eye shape, skin condition, this takes the pressure away from rushing it on the day yourself, after all it is your face and hair that people see first and will notice forever in those stunning photographs.

So why use a professional on the day? A make-up artist will use all the correct products to last all day and makes the most of your face, brides often ask "what can I do with my dry/lined/blemished skin but you will be amazed today what can be achieved with experience, knowledge and understanding. A professional will design your make-up to look good from every photogenic angle, they will smooth, balance and contour, until it is perfect.

So many say after an initial consultation "I never knew my face could look like that,” and a favourite moment for any professional is when the consultation is finished and the bride sees herself  as she would on the day and starts to flirt with herself in the mirror from every angle.

Make-up is as good as the products you use, it will make you look your best from your magical entrance to that grand exit. As a professional I will enhance, highlight and play down the good and the not so good parts of your face and body, and who wouldn't like the pressure and stress taken away on the big day? Most professionals would want you to relax and enjoy the last few hours of being a single woman by being pampered by a skilled professional that makes you look and feel like a goddess on the one day you want it right.

Just remember that everyday make-up has its place, but on the day, light, the colour of your dress, your flowers and condition of your skin play a very important part of the process.

Remember the photographs taken on the day are looked at for a lifetime – you  need to look amazing - that is what a professional is for!
