Which wedding cake flavour? Our Yorkshire experts answer

A host of Yorkshire cake makers share their most popular flavours, while presenting just some of the options available for your wedding
Cakes by Leisa, Wakefield
"I am always trying to think of different and quirky flavours for couples who want to make a bold statement with the flavour of their wedding cake. Currently one of my most popular cake flavours is S’mores, which is based on the popular American log fire treat. This flavour combines toasted marshmallow, chocolate and biscuit flavours. This unique flavour combination has really caught the imagination of couples selecting flavours for their wedding and strays from the traditional vanilla and chocolate choices which have dominated previously." White Rose Cake Design, Holmfirth
"The majority of our couples are now choosing to have a different flavour per tier in their wedding cake, which is something we definitely encourage. Our favourite flavour is zesty lemon. We make our lemon cakes with fresh lemons and the cakes are filled with lemon buttercream and lemon curd to add that extra zingy hit.
"White Rose Cake Design is a company passionate about creating beautiful and delicious wedding cakes. We create elegant modern wedding cakes with a hint of luxury. Specialising in sugar flowers, we are based in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire and offer free consultations and free local delivery." Jo Robinson

Strawberry Field Bakes, Morley
"I'm Vicky and I have recently started doing wedding cakes after running my cake business for three years. I love new bespoke designs especially one for something so special and personal as a wedding day. My favourite flavour and one the majority of my repeat customers order is the classic vanilla sponge with a vanilla buttercream and my homemade strawberry jam. I make my own jam from strawberries also homegrown by us on our farm where we do PYO strawberries in the summer. The taste is unique and full of flavour. I am passionate about 'homemade', creating the ultimate taste sensation, even down to my own vanilla extract.
"My second favourite has to be vanilla sponge with salted caramel and white chocolate, it is lush. I also do dessert tables to include cupcakes, brownies and cheesecakes." Vicky Crosby
Rose and Jam Cake Creations, Leeds
"When designing your wedding cake it is really important to include something that you would enjoy eating yourself. It is quite the norm now to have a different flavour in each tier, giving a choice of flavours for you and your guests to choose from. At Rose and Jam everything is baked fresh using quality ingredients. We believe the inside should be just as special as the outside.
"My orange and passion fruit flavour is a popular choice as it is a little different. It has a light and zesty sponge with an orange and passion fruit curd and vanilla swiss meringue buttercream. This flavour is finished perfectly with a coating of white chocolate ganache contrasting against the sharpness of the citrus flavour." Laura Andrews
Three Little Birds Bakery, Keighley
"Everyone's heard of red velvet, but most people are new to pink velvet cake when they arrive at Three Little Birds Bakery. This delicate flavour retains all the velvety softness of its American cousin, but as it contains only egg whites rather than the whole egg, the sponge is given an ethereal quality that pairs beautifully with our signature passion fruit Swiss meringue buttercream. Forget claggy, oversweet icing: this is airy, silky perfection.
"All our bridal couples are invited to taste up to four flavours at your bespoke consultation with us, so why not see what you think? Based in the Yorkshire moors, with ingredients sourced from local farms and ethical and sustainable sources wherever possible, we offer a luxury experience in cake. From the moment you get in touch to the moment we deliver your unique wedding cake to your venue, you’re guaranteed peace of mind and a slice of joy to complete your celebration." Rebecca Severs
Booootiful Cakes, Holmfirth
"Flavourings for cakes can vary so much, but with a passion for wedding cake flavours this year we have implemented an amazing array of flavours to satisfy the palate. One such flavour is red velvet and lemon cake, which comes together as one. Plus, chocolate cake and raspberry cake with a central blackberry curd. We also offer a coconut and passion fruit curd. All the flavours have been trialled by the staff and chefs at my local wedding venue.
"All cakes can look amazing but your guests will appreciate a different experience when consuming your cake... for a cake that tastes just as good as it looks. I pride ourselves on keeping flavours very much at the forefront of the business." Jeanette Moorhouse
