It's the most talked about topic since the royal engagement was announced... what will Meghan Markle wear on her wedding day? And with rumours circulating that the Suits actress has opted for Ralph and Russo as her dress designer, this begs the question what will the gown look like?

Meghan is known for her chic and sophisticated style icon status and there's no doubt she'll opt for something that celebrates her individuality. Yet we will have to wait until the day to see whether her signature classic and understated look reigns supreme or if she will show a previously unseen side to commence her royal status.

Whatever she decides, the royal bride-to-be will make a fashion statement in a way only she knows how, blazing a trail for future brides who want to replicate the look. Here, four top bridal designers offer their predictions for Meghan's defining moment...

Stephanie Allin

“In some ways you can imagine Meghan wearing a Victoria Beckham-style dress; Meghan would suit a dress with more architectural styling than a boho dress. I think we may be in for a surprise with Meghan’s gown, as potentially she could go for a Canadian designer, but I think she will want to go for someone who is not a big name. The actress has a slender figure and this means she can get away with wearing something figure hugging. I would not be surprised if she went for a lace dress because she tends to wear a lot of luxury fabrics, I am envisaging a beautiful silk crepe gown and something with a lot of movement and modern sensibilities.”

“I think the dress will be in a delicate lace with very subtle beading. It will be designed with a deep V neckline and long lace sleeve - the sleeve will show her skin tone so you can see the beauty and delicate detail of the lace. The gown will skim Megan’s body and have a large train attached at the waist in a silk zibeline. From the front you will see the vision of the body skimming lace dress and this fabulous train creating drama; the train will extend to the back and the lace from the gown will trickle down the train from the waist. Meghan will wear a silk veil covering the entire gown and extending to just past the end of the train on her gown - she will wear a tiara she chooses from the collection of the late Princess Diana. I believe Meghan will wear a delicate diamond necklace and matching bracelet.”

Ines Di Santo

"Meghan is very dainty and elegant and has a beautiful figure. This gown reveals her curves in a tasteful way. It’s an off-the-shoulder design with a low-cut back to showcase her lovely neckline and statuesque physique."

"It will be a dramatic affair no doubt. Ralph and Russo create incredible bridal silhouettes – stunning long, embellished trains and fairytale boned bodices with very exciting layered skirting. I think this is as near as we will get to that magical impact we all experienced when seeing Princess Diana’s gown for the first time. I imagine Meghan’s dress will be embroidered in hand-made thread work and embellished with pearls or Swarovski crystals. A big voluminous gown for the church ceremony with elements of lace and sheer sleeves, with an exaggerated veil. Ralph and Russo have focused hugely on beautiful, dramatic trains and veils in their most recent collection and you can bet this will be a key feature of Meghan’s gown. Expect overall something classic with a contemporary twist – she could even go with a royal first – a cape style gown, which the designers have shown on recent catwalks too."
