What to pack for your honeymoon: the ultimate checklist

If you’re jetting off to sunnier climes for your honeymoon, use this checklist to ensure you pack all that you need

The wedding has been and gone, now the time has come to concentrate on your honeymoon. However, when caught up in the post-wedding blues, it is easy to lose sight of what you will need to take on your honeymoon. Whether you are going straight after the wedding or leaving it a few weeks, use this handy honeymoon checklist to ensure nothing goes forgotten.

The Essentials

  • Travel documents: Passports, boarding passes (if printed prior to departure), booking confirmation/s, copies of visas, travel insurance, driver’s license, emergency contact numbers (including bank details and your doctor) – take photo copies of all these documents beforehand and store them on email for peace of mind.
  • Currency and debit/credit cards
  • Travel adaptor plugs
  • Prescription medication in the original packaging
  • Contraception
  • Sunscreen – take a mixture of sun protection factors, but ensure you have a high SPF or sunblock for your face or burnt areas.
  • After-sun cream or aloe vera gel
  • Shower gel
  • Bug repellent
  • After bite
  • Painkillers, indigestion/diarrhoea relief, travel sickness relief, antihistamines, plasters – or a small first aid kit
  • Camera/video camera, memory cards and charger/batteries
  • Phone charger
  • MP3 players or iPods and tablets
  • A selection of reading books
  • Sewing kit
  • Toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss and/or mouth wash
  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Travel pillow
  • Maps, guidebooks and translation dictionary
  • Luggage locks and tags

For Her

  • Sunhat and sunglasses
  • Flip-flops for time around the pool or on the beach
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Toiletries including make-up, make-up wipes/cleanser, moisturiser, body lotion, deodorant, lip balm with SPF, hair styling products and perfume
  • Re-sealable plastic bags for carry-on toiletries under 100ml
  • Sanitary products
  • Hair grips and hair ties
  • Razors
  • Nail file, nail clippers and tweezers
  • Contact lenses or prescription glasses
  • A hairbrush
  • Straighteners/tongs/hairdryer
  • T-shirts/vests
  • Shorts/skirts
  • Beach cover-ups
  • Dresses for the day and evening
  • Further outfits for the evening
  • Bikinis/swimsuits
  • Underwear for the day and evening
  • Luxury lingerie
  • Jewellery
  • Sandals and heels
  • A selection of reading books
  • Beach towel
  • Practical and secure day bag
  • Evening handbag or clutch bag
  • Sweater, cardigan or pashmina for colder evenings
  • Travel umbrella or rain poncho

For Him

  • Sunhat or cap and sunglasses
  • Flip-flops for time around the pool or on the beach
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Shaving/grooming products including deodorant, a comb, lip balm with SPF, hair styling products, shaving cream and after shave
  • Re-sealable plastic bags for carry-on toiletries under 100ml
  • Contact lenses or prescription glasses
  • T-shirts/vests
  • Shorts
  • Outfits for the evening
  • Swimming shorts
  • Underwear
  • Rucksack or bag for the day
  • A book (or two)
  • Beach towel
  • Long trousers for hotels with strict dining dress codes
  • Sweater for colder evenings
  • Travel umbrella or rain poncho

As with any holiday, remember to leave a document detailing your hotel/resort, flight times, flight numbers, travel provider, travel insurance company (and policy number) and contact numbers with a family member or friend in case of an emergency.
