Should you ever receive an invitation to attend an Indian wedding, then you should be very excited. Prepare to have your senses enthralled with the vibrant colours, scintillating décor and energetic music.

Every wedding is unique and tailored to each bride and groom, taking into account their religion, which will dictate the type and location of the wedding ceremony, as well as number of celebratory events that will make up the wedding. However, generally speaking, here are the main elements you can expect:

More then one celebration

Indian weddings, regardless of the bride and groom’s religion, can take place over several days with many different types of ceremonies and celebrations.

Make sure you have an appropriate and colourful outfit for each.

Mouthwatering food

When it comes to the food, unique aromas and sumptuous flavours are key. Indian cuisine, like all cuisine, varies depending on its local area. Nevertheless, there are many elements that remain true throughout.

Expect a variety of dishes to make up your meal, usually served in a sharing family style in the middle of the table. Some will most likely be spicy, so if you can’t take the heat do check with other guests before diving in.

With fusion cuisine becoming more and more popular, fusion canapés or dishes that merge culinary traditions serve as a crowd-pleasing option. Greenleaf Catering is a renowned provider of Asian cuisine in the UK and lists its masala fish with fiery fries as one of its finest fusion dishes.

Dance, dance, dance

As is typical of Asian culture, it is customary to celebrate such special moments with dancing, so don’t be surprised to see family and friends of all ages rocking the dancefloor.

In addition to having a DJ, saxophonists and traditional drummers can add extra flare to the evening.

The colours of the rainbow

Asian weddings are wonderfully vibrant. Expect to see bold and bright colours in the décor and artificial flowers, which are a great way to be cost effective and environmentally friendly when hosting multiple celebrations and large gatherings.

Guests too will wear wonderfully ornate and colourful outfits with stunning jewellery, representing the joy and happiness of the occasion.
