Wedding Venue Fact File: Longleat, Wiltshire

28 Nov 2019

Situated on the Wiltshire and Somerset border, Longleat offers a range of extraordinary spaces to host your special day where the possibilities are endless meaning each wedding is bespoke to you

The home of 16 generations of the Thynn(e) family for more than 470 years, Longleat provides a historical backdrop for your wedding day. Follow in the footsteps of the The Viscount and Viscountess Weymouth who married at the 900-acre estate in 2013 and choose to hold your wedding day among the Elizabethan architecture, expansive grounds and formal gardens.

Home to Longleat Safari Park, couples can also opt to incorporate fun animal experiences into their day. A trip on the Safari Bus will delight wedding guests with zebras, giraffes, lions, tigers, cheetahs and wolves all roaming as you journey around the Safari Drive-through.

Accommodating up to 280 guests, Longleat has a wedding venue for all styles of wedding – whether you’re hosting a grand and large-scale event or a more intimate and small-scale affair. Take a look at all that there is on offer…

Longleat House

Retaining many of its 16thcentury features, Longleat House is the perfect place for a timeless wedding. You could hold your ceremony in the Green Library, with its shelves of antique literature and chandelier centrepiece, which is located on the ground floor of the House and offers easy access for those in a wheelchair or with limited mobility.

Post-ceremony drinks could be conducted in the East Corridor before your wedding breakfast in the Great Hall. A piano in the Minstrels Gallery overlooking the Great Hall can be used with consent given by the Longleat Wedding Team, although a pianist and lighting would need to be hired.

The Orangery

Also licensed for civil ceremonies, the Orangery is located in the gardens of Longleat – a stone’s throw from Longleat House. Built by Jeffry Wyatville for the 2nd Marquess of Bath circa 1807, the Orangery is a truly romantic setting for your ceremony.

Continue your day with a drinks reception in the Love Labyrinth rose garden, wedding breakfast in the Great Hall of Longleat House and evening reception in The Cellars.

The Longhouse

If you are looking for a blank canvas venue with which to put your own personal stamp, The Longhouse is a contemporary and versatile building with bi-folding doors and its own exclusive terrace. Your ceremony and reception can both be held here, allowing you to host your entire wedding day in one place. Venue hire from £8,400.

Lord Bath’s Banqueting Suite

Ideal for weddings with smaller guest lists, Lord Bath’s Banqueting Suite is located in the penthouse apartments of Longleat House. Featuring ancestral portraits by the 7th Marquess of Bath, the room can accommodate up to 35 guests for the ceremony and reception.

As part of Lord Bath’s Banqueting Suite package, the wedding party can also enjoy a VIP experience in 4x4s around the safari park. Package starting from £180pp.

Marquee weddings

Host a lakeside wedding celebration with a marquee set alongside Half Mile Lake. Conduct your ceremony in the Orangery, before taking a 5-10 minute walk from Longleat House to the marquee for your wedding breakfast. The perfect spot to enjoy views over Half Mile Lake, you can even step aboard your own Jungle Cruise to spot hippos and gorillas and feed sea lions. Venue hire starts from £9,600.

The Longleat Wedding Team will be on hand throughout the planning process to discuss and assist with your requirements and can recommend nearby churches for a religious ceremony and accommodation for guests. They can also recommend various local suppliers including two external catering companies to ensure your big day is nothing but a success.
