Wedding planning tips for the newly engaged

Are you newly engaged in 2015? Mrs P and P have some top tips to getting started with your wedding planning

1. The first thing you need to do as a couple is work out what your priorities are for the day, the elements that you really can’t live without. Once you’ve decided this, you’ll know what you’re willing to compromise on. Be patient and work together, it’s all about team work.

2. Set a date, this gives you the time scale you’re working to. Be aware however that a wedding taking place in the summer on a Saturday will be much more expensive than any other time of the year. For example having your wedding on a week day could really save you some money.

3. Set your budget and how you’re going to get the cash. Do you have some savings already? How much can you both comfortably put aside each month for the big day? Will family be contributing? Once you know this, it gives you your realistic goals of what you’re trying to achieve.

4. Appoint your team. This means choosing your wedding party, from the best man to the made of honour/chief bridesmaid to the flower girl. You want to make sure you choose people you can trust and that will help you through the process as much as possible.

5. Remember always throughout the planning stages that all Brides and Grooms get frustrated. The issues you may come across can seem like a giant obstacle to overcome but as long as you stick together and remember what the day is really about, everything is manageable.

6. Make sure to take breaks from the madness and have regular date nights so that you remember the real reason you are getting married in the first place. You could have a night a week where you just have a good night with your friends and wedding chat is banned, it’s important to not let it overwhelm you.

7. Keep everything in perspective, at the end of the day, it’s just one day, it’s everything that comes afterwards that’s really important, being married.
