What food do you like? This is your day so pick the food you and your bridegroom love. What is your favourite restaurant? Where did you first eat out as a couple? Does your partmer obsess over roast dinner or is pizza more his thing? Get personal.

French

Everyone loves French food, non? You don’t have to go for Michelin star grub but why not take a leaf out of the rustic French cookery book. If it’s an autumn or winter wedding how about cute little French Onion soups with croutons and cheese on top. Or if summer why not make the use of seasonal veg just like the French and incorporate broad beans or asparagus into your menu? One of the best tips from the French comes for the cake. Why not add a bit of oo la la with a Croquembouche – a stack of profiteroles fused together with caramel? Ask our wedding catering suppliers for more Wedding Breakfast ideas.

Italian

Canapés can often be predictable. Why not copy the Italians and have charcuterie for your guests? Maybe serve with tempured vegetables – aubergine, courgette etc. In Italy they even do this with chunks of ciabatta – yum! Crostini also make a mean canapé – why not try Jamie Oliver’s recipe. Served outside with some Campari and prosecco cocktails you just know you will be kicking things off in style.

English

Don’t tell me, your man is more of a meat and two veg type or lives on fish and chips. Don’t fight it just go with it. A superb roast dinner can be a great idea for a wedding meal. Just make sure there are some original touches like everyone gets Yorkshire puds whether you opt for beef or not and perhaps bowls of cauliflower cheese to share around the table. If you really can’t deal with English food for your main meal have mini Yorkshire pudding canapés or opt for fish and chips at midnight for the late night revelers! Don't know where to look for Wedding Caterers? Let us find you one.

Asian

Chef Gary, a popular Hampshire caterer, thinks that Asian food is perfect for weddings. He is seeing the exotic flavours of lemongrass, ginger and chilli appearing more and more. If you need a bit of help, Gary’s most popular dishes at the moment include: Crispy 5 Spice Duck Parcels with Sweet Chili Sauce as a canapé. For a main course: Thai Green King prawn and Monkfish Curry or a Sri- Lankan Chicken Curry with Coconut Milk, Lemongrass and toasted spices.

It is important to keep an eye on your budget with the food, which our budget tracker will help you with. The key to a great wedding dessert is to keep it simple. All your guests will enjoy something light for dessert, having had a rich main course and being sat down for a while.

So, our advice is: agree with your bridegroom what are both your favourite foods. Do not try to please everyone: this is your dream wedding so you should be eating the foods that you both like. Nevertheless, if you need a bit of help, Gary’s top five foods not to be missed off any wedding breakfast menu are:

  1. Fresh Chili
  2. Scallops
  3. Chicken
  4. Coconut Milk
  5. Strawberries
