Where: Ceremony and reception at Bartle Hall, Bartle, Lancashire

We always knew we wanted an intimate yet luxurious venue and although Bartle Hall was only the second venue which we viewed, we knew it was right for us. The staff were so welcoming and we felt at home right away. The day went seamlessly and we really couldn’t have asked for more.
My dress was by Justin Alexander from Bride 2 Be in Leigh. If I am being honest I didn’t like it on the hanger, it was mum who suggested I try it on as the lace detail reminded her of her own dress many years ago. Once I had the dress on I felt like a million dollars and mum’s tears sealed the deal.
Rob wanted something a bit different to the traditional top hat and tails and the snappy blue suit from TM Lewin certainly fitted the bill. He chose to buy the suits rather than hire as the groomsmen would then have the suit for future occasions. The bridesmaids wore gowns from Occasions in St Helens in an antique gold colour.
We chose antique gold and ivory as our colour scheme and the general theme of vintage and lace. We had a vintage suitcase (courtesy of Rob’s nan) in place of the traditional card postbox. I love anything vintage and artsy. Our family were really supportive throughout all the planning but we tried to take care of most arrangements ourselves. They really helped out on the big day, ferrying dresses and people about from home to the venue and making sure that everyone was where they should be.
I am a very creative person so I really wanted to add as many personal touches to the big day as possible. Rob and I made all our invitations by hand along with Forget Me Not seed packet favours, place names and table plan. I even made a button bouquet which now takes pride of place at home.
I would highly recommend Flower Design to future brides in Lancashire. The service they offer is top class and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process from creating a mood board to tailoring the corsages and buttonholes. We had a blend of ivory flowers with pink hydrangeas to add a bit of colour.
A family friend baked the cake and decorated it to complement our lace theme, we were absolutely thrilled with the result and it almost looked too good to eat!
On the morning I felt very nervous but mostly excited. I think Rob just felt sick! Walking down the aisle is one of those moments I will never forget. The ceremony was really special. We had all our favourite people in the room and Rob’s granddad read a beautiful poem. I should also mention that Rob, being the joker that he is, even managed to slip in ‘awful’ wedded wife amongst the vows too.
We had no doubt that we had selected the right photographers for us. We got on really well with Steph and Steve Ashton and they understood exactly what we wanted for our photographs. They were excellent at capturing those natural moments that you don’t even realise are taking place. They also set up some really cool shots in the bar area involving cocktails which we loved!
We had a sweet buffet (which kept the little ones entertained) and DIY photobooth and our first dance was Your Song by Ellie Golding - it mainly involved a lot of twirling around and shuffling! We then partied the night away with the DJ playing some Northern Soul classics which got everyone on the dance floor.
