Where: Civil ceremony and reception at Rudding Park, Harrogate

I had been quite stressed in the run-up to the wedding. But on the day, I woke up excited more than anything else. I got up early and drove to Rudding Park with my sister from my parents’ house. As I’m French-Scottish and Chris is a Londoner, trying to find a venue that was equal travelling difference for everyone wasn’t easy! We also both wanted different things from our venue. Chris wanted a church ceremony and I wanted a civil one. When we’d finally settled on Yorkshire we popped in to see Rudding Park at the last minute and immediately fell in love. The venue’s blend of old and new, plus the fact we could have both civil and church ceremonies suited our personalities and needs perfectly.
I have a short pixie crop so I knew I would never look like a traditional bride. I tried on a number of dresses with trains and didn’t feel ‘myself’ in any of them. As soon as I tried on a short dress I felt happy, comfortable and confident. After I picked my dress I thought a 1950s theme would work well for our day.
One of my favourite memories of the day is standing with both my parents outside the library before the civil ceremony, going over everything with the Registrar with my tummy full of butterflies. I couldn’t believe the day had finally arrived.
After the civil ceremony for close family, we then had a blessing in the 19th century church in the grounds, with all our guests. Our somewhat unconventional Bishop then proceeded to ask the audience where they were from, which prompted cheers from the congregation. It felt more like a rock concert than a wedding! Then we walked back down the aisle to the Joyful Soundz Gospal choir singing ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’.
We walked (or rather danced) into the wedding breakfast to the choir singing ‘Higher and Higher’. I knew I would never stay quiet on such a special day so made my own speech before the groom!
The evening do rocked! Our band, The Rips sang ‘She’s The One’ for our first dance then Ceilidh House started the Scottish dancing.
