Wedding planners Guadalupe Alvarez and Meegan Cardenas of Penzi Weddings tells us about the couple's big day which took place in February 2020:

Where, when and how have they met?

"My mother and Samuel are both from Tampico", Paulina explains. "Sam has been best friends and next door neighbors with my first cousin Gerardo since the second grade. I would spend most summers in Tampico but our age difference kept us from crossing paths but I always admired him from afar. One summer my mother sent my sister and I on vacation at my uncle's hotel in Puerto Vallarta where Sam was staying with Gerardo. We had instant chemistry and spent the entire trip inseparable even though Gerardo wasn’t too pleased. Eventually, Gerardo got over his overprotective nature and the rest is history."

Was there any special wedding proposal?

"It was my birthday weekend and my friends and family from Florida were planning to come to the city to celebrate with me", said Paulina. "Sam offered to plan a special birthday brunch for me. Friday night we went out and partied all night, the next morning before my birthday brunch Sam surprised me saying he booked a room at my favorite hotel in NYC, The Gramercy Park Hotel. After checking in he suggested we walk around Gramercy park which only gives access to residents and hotel guests. As we approached the fountain he got down on one knee and arranged for the photographer to capture the moment. After the proposal he had admitted that the birthday brunch was actually an engagement party and we continued to celebrate throughout the night! It's a weekend I will never forget."

How did they choose the place to get married?

Samuel´s mother studied in San Miguel de Allende and particularly at Instituto Allende where the wedding took place - they wanted to get married where his parents met.

Does the couple follow a specific religion?

The bride is Jewish ad the groom is Catholic - this is why we had the celebration officiated by both a Rabbi and a Catholic priest.

Did the couple have any special request for their wedding?

We conducted a day of the altar to remember loved ones. Paulina and Samuel wanted the rehearsal dinner to be very Mexican to celebrate their Mexican roots and the wedding to be very classic. Samuel's father brought the best shrimp from Mexico from Tampico to serve on Friday and the beef we served at the wedding reception was from their ranch. The couple wanted to make sure everybody had a wonderful time.

How did you come up with the concept of this wedding?

Paulina wanted to make sure the rehearsal was very colorful and then the wedding classic with the white and green color theme. The mother of the groom collects ribbons and they wanted to integrate this to the wedding and you can see this in the chuppa and in the centerpieces.

Tell us a little bit about this destination – what differentiates it from other places?

San Miguel de Allende is a beautiful colonial town in the center of Mexico it is a UNESCO World Heritage site, it has romantic streets and amazing venues, the weather is amazing most of the year, and is one of Conde Nast traveler best city to visit 2020.

What was Paulina and Samuel's impression of the wedding?

They were so happy to see that everything that they have wanted in the planning months was there for everybody to see. They loved the ceremony with the Rabbi and the Priest; this was very emotional. They loved that everybody was happy and had a wonderful time

What was the most heart-touching moment for them?

The ceremony was incredible, to see two faiths come together to bless a couple it was wonderful. We always love the first dance, and the dance of the groom with his mother was very emotional.
