Lord’s invites cricket fans to make wedding history during 200th year
Lord’s, the Home of Cricket, is offering fans of the sport the unique opportunity to make history by holding their wedding celebrations at the Ground during its bicentennial year.
In 2014, Lord’s marks its 200th year of sporting excellence, making it a very special moment for cricket fans to celebrate their nuptials at the Ground. Couples wishing to share their day in the old haunts of the greats can take their vows overlooking the very spot where sporting legends from two centuries of cricket history - from WG Grace to Ian Botham - once played.
Couples marrying at the Ground can expect several special touches that will add a little sparkle to the day. These range from romantic personalised messages displayed on scoreboards and tours around the world-famous venue, to two-tickets for each pair of newly-weds to attend one day of a Test Match.
Close to Regent’s Park, in a leafy enclave of north-west London, Lord’s’ distinctive spaces immerse guests in classic 19th-century charm and are fit to cater for both grand and intimate occasions:
The Long Room
Housed in the Grade II* listed Pavilion, the iconic Long Room is fit to host wedding ceremonies for 230 and receptions for up to 200 people. The opulent interior complements the fine Victorian architecture, dating from 1889, and features nods to the room’s astounding sporting history.
The Writing Room
Suited to smaller ceremonies and wedding breakfasts, the Writing Room looks onto the Ground from the north end of the Pavilion. Large bay windows flood the space with natural light and, for winter nuptials, couples can request that the hearths be lit to give the room a cosy atmosphere.
The Thomas Lord Suite
The Thomas Lord Suite is a large and versatile space with simple décor, which offers a blank canvas for couples wishing to put their own stamp on their big day. Warm and welcoming, with all the prestige associated with Lord’s, this is the ideal venue for guests to dance the night away. The Thomas Lord Suite accommodates up to 300 guests for a wedding breakfast and 400 guests for an evening reception. The flexible space can also be divided in two, if appropriate for the size of your celebrations.
The Pavilion Roof Terrace
The spectacular Pavilion Roof Terrace is particularly suited for a summer reception. With its long balcony overlooking the entire Ground, this is an ideal location for guests to enjoy drinks and mingle in warm weather.
The Harris Garden
Ideal for al fresco drinks and dining, this charming rose garden, close to the entrance of the Pavilion, can host up to 200 people.
Wedding packages start from £80 per person (excluding VAT). All packages include a dedicated wedding coordinator to guide couples through every step of their big day, from planning to execution.
