Leading the way in edgy, fashion forward bridal looks, Jennifer Linton and Jaye Macdonald, co-directors at Linton & Mac, Aberdeen, take us behind the scenes of their 'Undone Bridal' shoot.

What was the inspiration behind the shoot?

The 'Undone Bridal' collection was inspired by our desire to create an on-trend collection of bridal imagery with a Linton & Mac twist. We were super excited to work with local businesses we love, and the undone-yet-done look has naturally evolved in the salon due to our own personal approach to styling. As a result, the collection embraces a cross-section of styles for brides looking for a fresh approach, while letting their own personality and intrinsic beauty shine through.

How did you tie the hair, make-up and outfits together with the theme?

We were keen to put a modern, fresh spin on a typical bridal shoot. To contrast, Stacey Stewart’s make-up was quite grungy with clear, natural skin creating a base for dramatic eyes and brows. The vintage dresses from The Closet were a great juxtaposition within the whole look - as was the setting of Saint Machar’s Cathedral, while the modern dresses from Perfect Bridal added to the opulent feel on location at the Malmaison Hotel.

What bridal hair trends do you expect to see coming through this year?

Dishevelled ‘undone’ hair is making a comeback, and more and more modern brides are opting for this look as it screams effortless beauty. Models at the Carolina Herrera and Isabelle Armstrong SS17 shows embraced this look perfectly. Dishevelled ‘undone’ hair is about taking a traditional up-do and making it fresher, more modern and less ‘done’. It’s a very modern way to wear bridal hair.

Why is the bride’s chosen hairstyle so important to her overall look?

Every bride wants to look perfect on her wedding day, and most will have a theme in mind for the big day. Whether it is romantic, Hollywood Glamour, or A Midsummer Night’s Dream outdoor wedding, it is so important that the bride’s chosen hairstyle is in-keeping with the rest of the wedding. For example, while a black-tie affair in a stately home may require a formal up-do, if you’re getting married in a more relaxed venue, such as a barn or garden, a more bohemian style (such as a dishevelled braid) would probably be better suited.

Tell us about the flower arrangements.

Kim Dalglish’s floral arrangement style is very loose and free flowing. She wanted this wedding shoot to be open to interpretation, and being a client at Linton & Mac herself, she knew that our signature undone-yet-done style would complement her flowers perfectly.

Tell us about the venue and why it was chosen

Saint Machar’s Cathedral is a very iconic building in Aberdeen and is a top wedding location. The site has been a place of worship since 580AD, with the cathedral being built in the 1130s. The gothic architecture created the right mood and was the perfect dramatic backdrop for our looks.
