You've got your venue décor sorted, but have you considered lighting to add ambience on your wedding day? The team at Festive Lights are experts at delivering the wow factor to any celebration and here they share the top trends for the year - from fairy lights to romantic lanterns.

Swoon-worthy festoons

Festoons are incredibly stylish and work well at both traditional and contemporary venues. A clever way to make the most of these show-stoppers is to use them with hooks or crooks to illuminate outdoor spaces. Festoons suspended at height look particularly impressive, while hanging them along crooks at a lower level works perfectly for lighting patios and walkways. Draped overhead, they create a magical canopy effect which looks amazing as a marquee entrance.

Rustic contrasts

Cool, retro bulbs provide the perfect contrast to a rural backdrop. Drape Edison-style festoon lights or classic fairy lights over beams for a natural look. Twinkling lights, set against dark and rustic colours, create a romantic ambience and highlight tall, detailed ceilings. For extra impact, bunting gives a subtle vintage look, while stringing pretty pom poms or Chinese lanterns among the lights adds a festival feel.

Jars of stars

Get crafty and fill mason jars with battery-powered tea lights. These look beautiful suspended outside and are the perfect hassle-free alternative to real candles, since you don’t have to worry about messy melted wax. Weather isn’t an issue either, as even the strongest breeze won’t blow them out. For a delicate look, use battery-powered wire fairy lights, which are really affordable and are available for either indoor or outdoor use. To create stunning table centrepieces, add a little glitter to your jars for extra sparkle. You could even add tealights to suspended glass baubles for a really magical finish.

Love letters

Still a massive trend, over-sized carnival lights bring a touch of Hollywood glitz to weddings. Brilliantly used as a focal point for the first dance, these illuminated letters provide drama and unmissable photo opportunities. Despite their size (typically 3ft – 5ft tall), they’re surprisingly easy to move and position as they are free standing. Whether you choose your own initials, Mr & Mrs, or LOVE as your big statement, these lights certainly spell out style.
