According to research by Next, data from Instagram and Google search has revealed the on-trend bridesmaid colours of winter 2021/2022. Black, purple and red are the most popular colours for bridesmaid gowns, with an influx of searches and hashtags. Here is how you can style your bridal party in these popular colours.
Black
Althought it's a colour not traditionally associated with weddings, black bridesmaid dresses are becoming more popular. Black is extremely versatile and its neutral colouring makes it a timeless and elegant choice for the winter season. Many brides-to-be agree, with 4,800 monthly searches and 57,000 annual searches on Google.
Keep it stylish with modest necklines, like an off-the-shoulder design and similar coloured shoes. Add delicate, dainty jewellery such as drop-line earrings for a feminine touch.
Red
This colour ties in nicely with the Christmas season, with 1,600 monthly searches and 19,200 searches this year. Red can add vibrance to your bridal party or create a stylish vibe if you’re opting for a deeper shade.
Consider satin and velvet fabrics with this colour for a polished look. Red tones tie in nicely with a rustic wedding, complementing the greenery. Keep your bridesmaids in one shade and alternate gown designs for a modern, refreshed look.
Purple
Purple is the most popular bridesmaid dress colour on Instagram with more than 3,000 hashtags, as well as 1,500 monthly Google searches and 18,000 searches annually. Look to lilac hues for a soft, feminine feel with long, floaty dress designs. Alternatively, you could add contrast and sophistication to your wedding with your bridal party in a deep purple.
For a unique colour scheme, dress your maid of honour in a different shade of purple to the rest of your bridal party. If your bridesmaids are wearing lavender, consider getting a gown for your maid of honour in mauve, or vice versa.
