The wedding of Rachel Davies and Andy Coad in Bodmin, Cornwall

Rachel and Andy’s wedding  at St Hydroc Church, Lanhydrock, Bodmin, followed by a reception at Lanhydrock Hotel and Golf Club, was a team effort thanks to their talented family and friends. Rachel tells the story.

We always had an idea of where we wanted to get married. Lanhydrock is where Andy grew up and I think it’s one of the most beautiful churches and grounds in Cornwall. We chose Lanhydrock Golf Club as our reception venue as it’s another place we both love to eat and visit. My sister, Hannah Treleaven, had her wedding reception there, so we knew they would get it perfect.

I went wedding dress shopping to Vu’s Bridal in Wadebridge with my mum (Sarah) and sister and as we walked in to the shop I saw the dress instantly and knew it was ‘the one’.

We had a few family members that had particular talents and knew they would be delighted to help us out in any way:

Richard Coad – best man – played a guitar solo for me as I walked down the aisle, being one of mine and Andy’s favourite songs it was quite touching.

Jenny Borlase – my aunt – helped make the wedding cake. She showed me how to make the flowers and get a perfect finish on the icing.

Laura Polkinghorne – friend and florist – Laura is a very talented florist and I knew I could trust her with my wedding flowers.

Dave Smith – family member – Dave did a fantastic wedding video for us, managing to capture everything on our wedding day.

The day started off in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I was surrounded by my family and bridesmaids at my mum and dad’s cottage. I was very nervous but very excited knowing that I will be marrying the love of my life that day. The bridesmaids got me in to my dress and ushered me into the wedding car with my dad, Michael.

The church service was beautiful and was everything we could have asked for including the gorgeous sunshine as I arrived at the church. The best bit of the wedding was the ceremony and saying the vows to each other. It was very emotional but a fantastic feeling.

After the service there was a very short drive to Lanhydrock Hotel and Golf Club. We were greeted with a glass of bubbly, and then headed down to the 19th hole for some more photos. This was only for 10 minutes but it was lovely having that time with Andy just to talk and to reflect on what had just happened.

Then it was time for the wedding breakfast – everyone headed into the reception room. We didn’t stick to tradition with the speeches; we had them before the meal. They were of course emotional and funny, started off with the father of the bride, then the groom followed by the best man.

The food was fantastic and the wedding cake looked stunning – made by me, with the help of my aunty and mum. I was so pleased with it.  At the evening do the DJ was great, starting off with music so everyone could mingle and chat, and then music to get everyone on the dance floor. It was so lovely being surrounded by the people we love. Our honeymoon was in Kos, Greece.

Top tip for other brides

Enjoy the moments you both have together. Just the two of us having the photos done on the golf course was special. The day will fly by, but you won’t realise until it’s time for everyone to head home. Make every moment count.
