Friends helped out with all aspects of Adam and Gemma’s wedding in Wimbish, which made for a fun and relaxed day

We knew we wanted a relaxed and intimate wedding in our local church, St Mary’s, where I was christened and have been a bridesmaid several times. We also attend services there on a regular basis and you can see the church from our cottage window.

The reception took place at a local gastro pub, The White Hart at Wimbish which totally suited our laid-back style. Some friends helped out by making the cupcakes, buying the flowers at a market in London (which involved getting up at 3am), helping to make the centrepieces, decorating the marquee, sewing the bunting and decorating the tables. Without everyone pulling together it would have made the whole experience much more stressful and much less fun.

The reception was beautiful. We had an informal barbecue for dinner with salmon, burgers, sausages and chicken. The marquee had been decorated beautifully by the bridal party the day before, lines of bunting and chandeliers filled the marquee, with hanging hearts, chalk boards and photographs making it personal and unique. We chose a cupcake tower for our wedding cake and provided a small homemade fruit cake which was decorated with little Mr and Mrs Sylvanian characters. It was presented on a sweet table where mason jars were filled with a variety of pick and mix sweets.

The entertainment was really popular – the singer had everyone up dancing and even our grandmas took to the stage!

Our first dance was John Legend’s Stay With You, which was performed by my youngest sister and bridesmaid, Lucy Powell. Adam arranged it as a surprise and there were happy tears all round.
