From statement backdrops to neon lighting, we look at the wedding décor trends for 2018

Neon lighting

With industrial-styled weddings rising in popularity, neon lights are set to be one of the biggest trends of 2018. These bold statement pieces can be used as backdrops for wedding photographs, as table numbers and centrepieces, or as signage to direct guests to the bar, dance floor and photobooth. Custom designs are available from various suppliers, or for a cheaper option take a look at the many readily-available ones in high street stores.

Geometric shapes

Although geometric designs have been trendy for a number of years now, 2018 is set to be the year they shine. The angular shapes and sharp lines will perfectly complement natural, minimalist styling, or opt for metallic objects such as candle holders or light fittings to add to a modern, industrial theme. The theme isn’t just limited to decorations, though; from invitations to the dress design and cake topper, geometric shapes can be used throughout a wedding.

Textured décor

Break up blocks of colour within your wedding decorations with textured materials, patterned lighting and drapery. Ruffles are set to be one of the most popular textures of the year; use matching ruffled tablecloths and chair covers to create a soft-layered look. For a more subtle nod to the trend, wrap mason jars in textured ribbon or use embossed lettering and textured paper for your stationery and signage.

In keeping with the rise in popularity of modern and industrial-styled weddings, metallics are due to make an impact in 2018. To prevent decorations from looking too cold or harsh, mix metallics with softer textures and colours, or only use metallics for small details. The top tones to use will be rose gold and copper; think candle holders, cake toppers and even the embossed calligraphy on your invitations and stationery.

Dramatic backdrops

Fill the empty spaces and create an irresistible photo opportunity with a dramatic backdrop. From circular floral backdrops to hanging macramé and wooden structures, 2018 is all about having a striking background to your big day. Almost anything can be used as a backdrop, such as balloons, flowers, paper, ribbons and more – just make sure to match the colours and theme to your personalities and the overall tone of your big day.
