The double surprise engagement through to the beautiful charm of this homemade wedding are sure to inspire. Bride, Hannah, tells us about their big day.
How did you meet Brad?
Staines Swimming Club has all to answer for - I was a swimmer there and Brad was a lifeguard, back in 2002.
When did you get engaged?
I took Brad away to Munich for his 30th Birthday present as a surprise, but it turned out I didn’t hold the biggest surprise of the holiday! He proposed on 13th October 2012, which was his birthday.
Tell us about your wedding planning journey
It was clear to us from the beginning that we wanted to be wed in a church, but for the reception we were a little more open. I am what my mother calls an “earthy girl”, so we settled on a barn for the reception - it was perfect for my style.
I wanted ensure that there was a vintage, homemade and personal feel to the whole day. We made lots of things for the wedding from the cakes to the invitations to the signs and bunting. We also made sure to add personal touches from both of us, such as we named the tables after our animals and family pictures were up around the room.
We were married on the 28th March 2014.
What's the most memorable part of the day for you?
Walking down the aisle and seeing Brad at the end, waiting to be my husband was the best bit of the day for me. The song that played as I walked was a surprise and was chosen by Brad, he wanted a song that reminded him of me, so it was such a special moment. I walked in to ‘The First Time I Saw Your Face'.
What advice would you give to other couples getting married?
Remember to stop and take in what’s actually happening around you both. Brad and I did this and we thought wow what wonderful friends and family we have that have all come together to celebrate this special day.

“I love to work with creative couples who like putting their own spin on their day. I gain inspiration from unusual venues or locations, whether in the middle of the forest or inside an old music hall. Though I’m ever the professional, I always like to bring the fun out in the day and engage with my subjects to reflect a fresh perspective.”
