The rise of the ‘groomzillas’
18 Dec 2018
We probably all know someone who has been labelled a ‘bridezilla’ on the lead up to her wedding day, but now it’s the men who seem to be causing the most drama - from dramatic beauty routines to arguments with the best man
Beauty brand Procoal surveyed 1,047 married men to ask them about their pre-wedding arrangements, with surprising results.
84% stated they personally plucked their eyebrows before getting married. A further 36% admitted to visiting a spa or salon in the month before their wedding day. 5% of men surveyed also admitted to trying micro-blading before the wedding day.
Nearly 30% of men admitted to getting a spray tan before getting married, while several of them admitted to regretting this decision because they got the process wrong.
Twelve of the men from the survey even admitted to ‘tan touring’ so that they would look great on their honeymoon; this involves contouring the self-tan to your face or body so it stays there on a semi-permanent basis.
Ty Clements, a barber for Male Concept in Brighton, admitted they had seen a 48% increase in grooms between 2016 and 2018 booking specific haircuts a week before their wedding day. They had even seen a 12% increase in grooms booking hair transformation treatments.
A further 61% from the survey hired a personal trainer at some point within the nine month build-up to the wedding. 94% of these respondents admitted they discontinued with the personal trainer after the honeymoon.
91% admitted to arguing with their best men during the wedding planning process and the reasons behind the quarrels were also revealed. 61% argued over suits, 21% said they thought their best man didn’t help enough and 15% disagreed about the stag do.
