Berkeley is best known as the home of Dr. Edward Jenner and the site of historic Berkeley Castle, however recently Berkeley is getting known for being the wedding capital of the Cotswolds!

Berkeley Castle began hosting civil wedding ceremonies in 2008 and now celebrates over 30 weddings each year. But the town of Berkeley can now offer a full range of wedding services too.

To promote Berkeley as a wedding capital, a number of local suppliers have come together to form the Cotswolds Wedding Guild. The group is the brainchild of Pippa Springer, co-founder of the Veils of Berkeley bridal wear shop. Their first meeting was at the end of 2010 and they have already started construction of their own website and marketing initiatives.

“As a new business, it was important to us to harness the local potential within the various wedding suppliers in Berkeley and the surrounding area, to create the perfect one-stop-shop for couples planning their wedding in the Cotswolds,” said Pippa.

The members of the guild pride themselves on producing quality products and services in conjunction with outstanding customer service.

The Guild is a new organisation, but is already planning joint events and marketing ideas to help promote weddings in the area and the individual members too. Ideas so far include a ‘wedding village’ at this year’s Berkeley Show in August, followed by a Wedding Showcase at Berkeley Castle in September. Based in and around Berkeley the members include Adam Drake Photography, Berkeley Castle, Berkeley Flowers, Cleeve Cake Company, Fisher Motor Company, Hyphun Entertainment, Sur Les Ailes D’Amour (Dove Release), Temple Spa and Veils of Berkeley.

So, thanks to the Cotswold Wedding Guild, Berkeley truly is a great place to start and end your Cotswold wedding.
