Surf Snowdonia offers alternative to traditional stag do
25 Aug 2017
Recent studies have shown that, contrary to popular belief, men are less than enthusiastic over the expected debauchery of stag parties
Men spend more than twice as much as women on their stag party. The average total cost of a stag party, £391, is over double the average cost of a hen party, which comes in at £175. Figures also show that men are spending more money attending their friends’ stag dos than on their own holidays.
And yet, the tide may be turning. There has been a surge in the popularity of less extreme activities, such as The Great British Bake-Off style baking classes, as well as outside-the-box pursuits like wrestling schools. Some of Britain’s biggest stag party organisers have revealed that the popularity of alcohol and strip club-related packages has decreased significantly, while cultural pursuits such as life drawing classes and historic city tours are increasing in demand.
This shift in stag do trends suggests that many stags would prefer to let off steam by getting active and making unforgettable memories, rather than having a weekend they’d rather forget. Surf Snowdonia is the world's first commercial artificial surfing lake, and sees a lot of interest from stag parties who can indulge their thrill-seeking via wave pools, water-based assault courses and human catapults without the hangover of excess and guilt.
The average spend is still higher than those of the hen groups (£1,165 to £982), but with every requirement catered for within the scenic onsite surroundings, the whole experience is more laidback than the average night on the town in Amsterdam or Dublin. With onsite glamping pod and bell tent accommodation, tipi tent venue hire by the water’s edge, and a BBQ catering option, stags can relax without feeling like their celebrations need to descend into depravity.
