I fell in love with St James’s Church which is opposite the home of David’s sister, Alison Wright, house for our wedding ceremony. It was small and personal. The key requirements we had for the reception venue were sole occupancy of and the option to provide our own drinks (with minimal or no corkage charge). We looked around potential reception venues and eventually decided on The Barn. I loved the bright open look and feel of it.
My aunt, Charlotte Morris Roper, is a jeweller so she found our wedding rings. Mine was too wide so was filed down and the filings added to David’s ring, so there’s a lovely connection between them. My mum, Beccy, is a photographer and booked a family friend Jaine Briscoe-Price to do the photographs for us. I wanted a big dress and after trying on more than 30, I knew I’d found the right one (which happened to be the first one I’d tried on).
After much discussion we decided on a red and orange colour scheme, based on our respective birthstones being ruby and fire stone. This also complemented the warm colours of the interior of The Barn. We decorated it ourselves, apart from the flowers which were provided by our florist.
The wedding ceremony was very special. It had been raining all morning but once we started saying our vows the sun came out and came streaming through the stained glass windows in the church.
We had a Las Vegas theme to our reception with the tables named after casinos and a Tom Jones impersonator providing the entertainment. The caterers were excellent. My family and I are pescatarians and the caterers provided a main course just for the four of us. My mother and stepfather Robert Lane, are friends with a wine producer and go grape-picking every year so arranged for us to have special edition English sparkling wine for our toasts using grapes they had picked two years previously, which was a lovely touch.
We also arranged for a casino to be set up in the evening, this was a lot of fun and a great way for the different groups of guests to meet each other.
