Wedding planner Donna Palimeri tells us about the couple's big day which took place in September 2020:
Tell us how they met.
They met in the year 2000 through their jobs at a local primary school where Angela was school secretary. Dave also worked in education and visited the schools in the area as the school accountant. Their first holiday together in 2003 was in the beautiful island of Kefalonia, which they fell in love with. On this holiday, they met a lovely holiday rep called Donna, who told them that she was considering becoming a wedding planner, and they encouraged her to follow her dreams.
Donna Palimeri, who organised their original wedding, said: “Their story is lovely – my first ever wedding for my company, and then 15 years later, they came back to me to renew their vows”.
Tell us a bit about the renewal.
Angela and Dave have had a very busy life in the last few years, raising their family with the pressure of work and moving into a new home which needed renovating from top to bottom.
Still totally devoted to each other, they considered having some time away, just the two of them to relax, enjoy each other’s company and unwind on their favourite Greek island.
Once they had booked their holiday, they contacted me to ask if during their stay I could arrange a romantic renewal of vows to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary. I was delighted to be part of another special memory for a second time and privileged they chose Kefalonia again too.
This was an opportunity for Angela and David to renew their vows that they made to each other when they first got married. This allowed them to commemorate their love which had deepened and matured over the past 15 years together. Their vow renewal ceremony was not meant to be a second wedding for them, but instead a more personalised and intimate affair, which they chose to have alone in a romantic old lighthouse in Fiscardo Harbour.
Although not essential, Angela chose to wear a white cotton dress and hold a bouquet of assorted fresh flowers. David accessorised with a buttonhole and looked relaxed and casually smart.
How did you come up with the concept of this wedding?
With their love of Greece and the Greek islands, the decor was local olive and pastel pinks. They are inspired by anything Greek, so the natural scenery, ambience, colours and smells were incorporated into their day.
How did this wedding change your career as a wedding planner/creator?
Looking back, this was my first huge step in becoming the first wedding planner on Kefalonia. My dream had become a reality and was the start of 16 years of continuing business. I am so proud of the company I created, from an idea to an award-winning business recognised and respected on the island.
What makes this celebration timeless?
As wedding planners, it is not only the wedding day itself that is important - you have to think about how they got to this day. They had a proposal, so we must celebrate this too. A day/evening filled with emotions, expectancy, hopes and nerves. After several years, still in love, the couple wants to express their love again. Anniversaries and renewals can be very emotional too, for many different reasons. Maybe their original wedding was done on a budget, so to celebrate for a second time the couples can do exactly what they want and how they want it. Maybe their original wedding was the exact opposite - huge and what their parents wanted, so this time the ceremony could be small and intimate, romantic and personalised just for them.
