Sunny delight

Matthew and Katie wanted their stress-free wedding to be full of fun and good cheer... and as bright as a spring day

We basically wanted to have the Weasley wedding from Harry Potter and The

Deathly Hallows. That was the extent of our research.

We wanted a marquee, some fairylights, and for all our friends and family to have a really good laugh.

Matthew’s friend and illustrator, Chloe Applin, designed all our stationery, and his mum, Monica, made our cake.

We wanted a cheerful spring theme, so we went for yellow. Despite some initial reservations from the (blonde) bridesmaids, I think it really worked and reflected the happy vibe of our day. We also added a few ‘seaside’ touches (like the beach hut wedding favours) because Matthew and I met in Newquay.

One of the suppliers I was absolutely certain about was our photographers Lina and

Tom. I’d seen their work and knew they were right for us, giving us gorgeous, happy pictures which capture the moment. I was particularly pleased with my bouquet. I loved it so much I refused to throw it for the girls and kept it in a vase, in mint

condition, for weeks.

A1 Discos provided our disco and were very amenable to all us making endless requests and hogging the DJ booth. Lina and Tom had also set up the photo booth by this point and all our mates had a great time.

Matthew and I wouldn’t consider ourselves natural wedding organisers. We booked everything about 18 months in advance and then forgot about it until six weeks before. I was so disorganised in fact, that the day before the wedding, I realised I’d booked two separate buses to collect us from the register office!
