In the run up to the wedding, it’s usual for men and women everywhere to celebrate their freedom as singletons on stag and hen parties. These days there’s a huge variety of places to go and often people are inspired to venture abroad for a whole weekend to have some fun with friends.

The top ten destinations for groups of men to visit are Las Vegas, Prague, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Dublin, London, Portugal, Monaco, Munich and Newquay. For women, London and other UK cities, New York, Paris, Barcelona, Edinburgh, Brussels, Brighton, Ibiza and The Canaries are popular choices.

Ideas for stags, while in these fantastic locations, include checking out and splashing the cash at the multitude of casinos in Las Vegas (not for those on a tight budget). Alternatively, stags after a cheaper weekend away can enjoy inexpensive drinks, food and hotel accommodation while in Prague.

For those with a crazier head on their shoulders, Amsterdam has everything when it comes to nightlife. Closer to home there’s Edinburgh and Dublin with their wonderful bars, restaurants and clubs too.

If you don’t fancy travelling far, but want to make a day and night of it, London’s definitely the place to be. Take a trip on the Thames in a speedboat, get tickets to watch a big football match, there’s rugby at Twickenham, dog racing at Wimbledon and in the evening the boys can scour the bars in Soho or watch comedians perform at The Comedy Store.

When it comes to hens, why not tuck into brunch at Claridges or afternoon tea at The Ritz when out and about in London? Watching a West End show, some serious shopping or an afternoon spa pamper session will only add to the excitement.

For the ultimate Sex and the City vacation, hens must head to New York to shop at stores such as Bloomingdale’s, Macey’s and Sak’s before hitting trendy bars and restaurants.

Paris offers the opportunity for a more cultural escape with exquisite cuisine and luxurious hotels thrown into the bargain. With so much designer shopping to be had, make sure there’s plenty of cash in your purse, or at least a credit card or two.

If you’re after a city with a buzz, then Barcelona provides the answer. There’s late night bars, an abundance of clubs, fabulous architecture and amazing beaches to chill out on after a lively night out.

If Brussels takes your fancy, jump on the Eurostar for a speedy journey and once there you can sit back in cosy bars enjoying moules, frites, wine and chocolate!

For a cultured twist to your stag and hen parties, how about getting the group into a paint-your-own-pottery workshop with items produced taken home at the end of the day?

Keeping on the paint theme, a spot of paintballing always goes down well, especially with guys. Participants get to feel like warriors, splatting their opponents using a special gun and wearing Ninja-style outfits.

A final suggestion is heading to the races at Aintree or Epsom, and if you’re lucky, you may even recoup some of those wedding costs!
