25 Aug 2015

As the Bride: The Wedding Show at Westpoint Arena in Exeter nears, we take a look at some of the more unusual wedding venues the south west has to offer, and who you’ll be able to meet among the 150 local wedding suppliers at the region’s premier bridal exhibition on 10-11 October.

Turreted castles to Mediterranean paradises, you don’t have to travel out of the south west to find a variety of wedding venues with a difference.

1. The fairytale castle
Pandering to the princess dream of many a little girl, venues don’t come more romantic than a castle. And this Cornish structure, Pentillie Castle, located 20 minutes from Plymouth, offers romance, seclusion, and exclusivity. It has extensive mature gardens, over 300 years of history and those dreamy views across the River Tamar provide inspirational, memorable photo opportunities. It offers couples-to-be a unique setting combined with award-winning accommodation, and exceptional facilities. But don’t take our word for it. Meet the team that will make your dreams a reality on Stand 334 at Bride: The Wedding Show at Westpoint Arena.

2. The tropical paradise
The English weather is one of the few things that even the most organised of couples can’t control. The answer? The iconic Eden Project biomes, which will guarantee outdoor-style photo opportunities whatever the weather.

3. The seaside scene
You don’t have to wait for the honeymoon to find your private beach… Carbis Bay Hotel & Estate is the perfect retreat, set within a 125 acre estate it has 11 areas licensed for wedding ceremonies, including their award-winning sub-tropical gardens, function rooms, conservatories with panoramic sea views, CBay Spa and (crucially) on their privately-owned Blue Flag beach. 4. The secret garden
A converted barn and a secret walled English garden overlooking a lake – you are spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful locations to say ‘I do’ at Upton Barn in Cullompton, Devon. It’s the quintessentially English backdrop for those that are taken with the romance of the English countryside. A lovingly restored 17th-century cider barn, a walled garden and views over the Blackdown hills can be found within 160 acres of organic farmland. Upton is still a much-loved family home, but is registered for civil ceremonies accommodating up to 120 guests; couples can choose to say their vows in the cosy barn with romantic lighting, a wood burning stove and underfloor heating throughout, or outdoors under the hand-crafted oak arbour within walled garden.
