Sell my Wedding: Helping brides recycle their weddings since 2011
In a year which put wedding plans on hold with uncertainty for future celebrations, health and job security, unsurprisingly, many couples have reconsidered what’s important when it comes to their wedding. But, with the announcement about a vaccine, hope is finally in the air for couples who’ve had to postpone their weddings until 2021.
With sustainability a priority for Bride, we’re proud to have been partners with online marketplace Sell My Wedding since 2018. Stylish weddings don’t need to cost the Earth and our ‘shop’ takes brides straight to this online marketplace where you can recycle your wedding and buy pre-loved from its eco-conscious community.
Rebecca Aspin, founder of Sell My Wedding, has been helping promote preloved weddings since 2011, after she was unable to find a dedicated website to sell her own much loved wedding items.
Instead of listing them on eBay, which at the time seemed like the only option, Rebecca set up the website, juggling it alongside her job and young family in order to help put like-minded brides in touch with each other to share the beautiful items they had sourced or made for their weddings.
Rebecca explains: “Over the years, we’ve seen enormous shifts in the industry. With the trend for rustic, DIY and handmade weddings there’s no longer a stigma attached to buying secondhand and I think this will continue over the coming years with couples more mindful about their wedding day, what they need and what’s actually important to them.
“The pandemic has also made people more acutely aware of nature, our impact on the world and our responsibility to protect it. I think this awareness will have a knock on effect on weddings and how people approach their planning.
“With so many weddings on hold, our marketplace has been quieter than usual, however many couples have used lockdown to have a good sort out and for many this includes finally getting round to selling their wedding items, cluttering up their wardrobes and garages from the dress to boxes of glasses and centrepieces. So it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for ideas for your wedding, there are lots of bargains to be found. Decor and accessories remain our most popular categories and we’ve got more than 1,600 active items currently for sale.”
“We’ve kept the format simple; for a fixed price of £15 couples can literally sell their wedding. There are no individual listing fees or commission taken.”
