It was my best friend who recommended Goldsborough Hall for our wedding. She thought it would be perfect for us. After looking at other venues we went to see Goldsborough Hall, arriving in the middle of a snowstorm! We were given a lovely warm welcome and instantly fell in love with the place.

When I tried on my dress in the shop everyone there insisted that I had to buy that one. I thought I wanted a slinkier one but I’m so glad they changed my mind, because it felt perfect on the day. We had decided on a winter theme so the bridesmaids and I had furry shrugs and I carried a muff instead of a traditional bouquet of flowers.

To fit in with the winter theme we chose bright blue dresses for the bridesmaids and kept everything else quite simple. We chose pots of shaped privet for the table centres instead of flowers and decorated them with crystals to try to create a frosty effect on them.

I was quite nervous on the day itself. I think because I was quite overwhelmed at the enormity of what we were doing more than anything else. Both of us were nervous to start with but one of our closest friends did a reading for us and stumbled over the word ‘communication’. The irony wasn’t lost on the audience and everybody laughed. It broke the ice and we relaxed and started to enjoy ourselves.

Amazingly, the sun had come out and our photographer, Phil Barber, organised a beautiful confetti shot for us. Neither Matt or I like having our photos taken but Phil and his wife, are very good at just capturing the moment. He also made sure the photographs didn’t take too long so that we could catch up with all our wedding guests.

We had the speeches after the wedding breakfast and before we knew it the DJ and our evening guests were arriving. We’d picked ‘Lovely Day’ by Bill Withers as our first dance and everybody joined us on the dance floor. The atmosphere was just brilliant.
