A small summer wedding of 19 guests in Costa Rica

Wedding planner, Meghan Cox, of Mil Besos, tells us about the couple's big day which took place in January 2020:

How did they meet:

Danielle and Marcus met at University, they were both in the Environment and Business program and sat next to each other in a class - it was love at first sight!

How did they choose the place to get married?

Marcus and Danielle vacationed in Costa Rica in December 2017. They took a road trip throughout Costa Rica and did activities like hiking, animal tours, volcano hikes, relaxed on the beach, and surfing. When they became engaged they knew they wanted to share the magic of Costa Rica with their guests.

Did the couple have any special request for their wedding?

Danielle and Marcus wanted an intimate setting: a private villa with quality design, lush, natural surroundings, and located near a beach.

How did you come up with the concept of this wedding?

Danielle had a vision for an intimate dinner party in a natural setting with soft lighting and clean design. We achieved this with a carefully selected private villa, natural wood tables, string lighting, candles, and tropical flowers in a soft romantic palette.

How did this wedding change your career as a wedding planner?

It reminded me how much I love the experience of intimate weddings. Brides and grooms can relax and enjoy each other, their guests, dinner, and really be in the moment.

Were there any challenges for this wedding?

Selecting the ceremony site was a bit of a challenge. There wasn't an open area that was ideal for the ceremony but we wanted to keep the ceremony on-site at the villa. We used the pool deck which worked out beautifully.

Tell us a little bit about this destination – what differentiates it from other places?

Costa Rica has something for everyone, from adventure, waterfalls, rainforests, beautiful beaches, wildlife, natural fresh food, to the best of all: welcoming, friendly people sharing the "Pura Vida" way of life. It's the perfect destination for weddings, allowing guests of all ages, interests, and abilities to find something they love.

What was the couple's impression of the wedding?

"Choosing the Mil Besos team to plan our wedding was the best decision we made", says Marcus and Danielle. "Meghan helped us choose the location, the villa, and every detail of how our wedding day would go. For wedding design, we worked with Cata. She was so personable and responsive. She made choosing furniture, flowers, and other decorations easy. On the wedding day everything was incredibly well done. This team goes above and beyond to make your day perfect.

"One special memory I have is how happy I was when I saw the lighting over the dinning table. When discussing lighting options, what I wanted was out of our budget and seemed too difficult to execute. But to my surprise, the lights were way better than what we had originally settled on. It was beautiful.

"When my husband and I created our wedding budget, a videographer was not in the plan. Lucky for us, a videographer messaged Meghan looking for a Costa Rica wedding shoot for their portfolio. Getting a wedding video at no cost was an absolute treat and we are so grateful.

"Sol was the coordinator for the wedding day. With her leading the charge, I knew I wouldn't have to worry about a thing. She was so organized and brought such positive energy to the day. I'd highly recommend her for the day of execution.

"In addition to coordinating the wedding day, Meghan also helped us book a caterer for other dinners, a yoga class at the villa, and recommended other awesome vendors we could book with. I can't say enough good things about Mil Besos. If you are planning your destination wedding in Costa Rica, choose them in a no-brainer."
