Six ways to involve your dog in your wedding day
03 Oct 2016
Many dog owners are eager to involve their canine companion in their big day, but the question is how... here are six ideas
With the most special day of your life comes a lot of planning: wedding stationary, table plans, family politics and menus. All very important, all very overwhelming. But one of the most exciting parts of planning your wedding can be how to include your four-legged friend in your big day. Here are six ways to ensure your dog is there with you on your wedding day, from Lincolnshire-based dog chaperone service Oh My Don't Forget the Dog....
1. Invite him
Your dog could be there for your ceremony and watch you get married, meet and greet at your reception and be the guest of honour for the whole day. They would love all that attention, cuddles and pictures and other guests would love to see him/her there with you.
2. Photo opportunities
He/she could be a part of your photographs, wearing an outfit that matches your theme or wedding colours, such as a bandana, fancy collar or floral wreath. For a themed wedding day, your canine companion could wear a tweed collar and lead for a country wedding or a tux for a more formal affair. There are so many dog outfits out there; the world really is your oyster.
3. Star them in your wedding stationery
Save the dates, wedding invites, order of service, thank you cards... the list is endless and your dog could be the star of the show. Your dog depicted in caricature form or a photoshoot of the happy couple and their pooch makes your wedding stationery more personal. Give it some serious thought.
4. Give him/her a job
Who doesn’t love a canine ring bearer or flower girl to add some cute factor to your day?
5. Include them in your wedding vows
When you're promising to love and protect each other, don't forget your pooch!
6. Theme your day around them
Paw-shaped confetti, a dog wedding cake topper or different breeds as table names.... If you're a dedicated dog owner, honour him/her with some dog-themed decor - whether your pet appears at your wedding or not.
