Show-girl Claire hosts the big event

Hosting the spectacular wedding event at Leeds castle is glamorous and popular actress Claire Sweeney – star of stage and screen.

Claire comes from a small family and was brought up in Liverpool by her mother, Kathleen, and butcher father, Ken along with her brother, Shaun

Her first job had nothing to do with acting though as she worked as a butchers assistant in her fathers shop.

Claire trained at the Elliott-Clarke Drama School in Liverpool, before winning a place at London’s famous Italia Conti stage school in London when she was 18.

She was determined to be a singer after she left school and was booked up for a succession of summer seasons and pantos, before landing a brief appearance in Brookside as Lindsey in 1991.

It was only two episodes and Claire decided she wanted to see the world, so she joined a cruise ship as a singer for four years.

After her stint at sea, Claire felt it was time to come home and decided to write the producer of Brookside to see if there was a place for her on the show. It just happened that the day the producer got her letter was the day the production staff were meeting to discuss long term storylines so they decided it was time to bring back Lindsey Corkhill. Claire returned to work at Brookside in 1995.

She appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2001 in aid of Comic Relief and her appearance on the show prompted her to greater fame amongst the British public.

This directly led to appearing as “Roxie Hart” in the musical Chicago in London. In 2002 she released an album, Claire on Telstar Records. This consisted of a mix of original material and cover versions of well-known songs, which peaked at number15 in the charts

Claire then took a regular place on the panel of ITV’s relaunched Loose Women from 2003–2005, but left to pursue her stage career.

In 2005 and 2006, Sweeney appeared in Pantomime productions of Snow White and Aladdin at Theatre Royal, Nottingham and then took over from Sally Ann Triplett in the role of “Miss Adelaide” in the UK production of Guys and Dolls

She has also presented a number of shows, such as Challenge of a Lifetime, I’m famous...and frightened!, A Song for Europe and 60 Minute Makeover and acted in programmes such as Merseybeat and Clocking Off.

In 2004, Claire appeared as a contestant on the first series of Strictly Come Dancing. She has most recently been seen as the host of the television series Chef vs Britain and as a regular panellist on Loose Women, both for ITV and appears as Amanda in Candy Cabs.
