Our day was a mixture of our favourite things. It was rustic, colourful, full of love and fun.

David has been a lifeboat crewman for more than 20 years and we met at the RNLI fundraising office in Cornwall. When we came out of the church the rest of the lifeboat crew were waiting to provide us with a guard of honour. We then drove through town on the tractor and trailer. Complete strangers were clapping, cheering and congratulating us!

Our wedding breakfast was an English tea party. The tables were decked with vintage crockery, cakes, finger sandwiches and cream teas. The room was filled with colour from 60 paper poms (made by the partners of the RNLI) floating above the tables, plus 200 metres of handmade bunting. We also had flower pots filled with pretty flowers, barley and wheat, which we labelled as gifts for our guests who helped us. David made nautical rope knot favours for the boys, and I made candy bag parcels for the girls.

Our speeches were described as touching, warm and heartfelt. I said a few words on behalf of my late father and was amazed to receive a standing ovation. I felt it important to acknowledge his fondness for my husband and I lit a candle so that his flame could burn while we celebrated. It was emotional.

The best bits included the joy and excitement which we could feel radiating from our guests. The lead vocalist from our band, The Reptiles, told us that when they walked into the reception they were struck by the amazing atmosphere which cannot be recreated and only comes from having amazing friends and family.

The whole day was great from start to finish. People will tell you that it goes so fast and it does! If you can’t afford or don’t want a professional videographer then get family or friends to video some of the most important bits. They’ll really help you remember the day and to see it from another angle.
