Flavour tastings and event was set up by Louisa Mason in Sussex to provide specialist cheese tastings for events and parties. She could be described as a cheese-evangelist and her enthusiasm for British cheese is contagious.

“I wanted to set up a company that showcased British cheese in a fun yet professional way,” she says, “Cheese is such a lovely food and one that most people like. Running a tasting and showing people the amazing variety that is out there is a real pleasure.”

Flavour Tastings is a mobile company that comes to the venue of your choice. They cover most of the South of England including Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire and London. The minimum number of people is only eight and so applicable to many hen parties. The events are run with a theme such as British cheese, England vs France, ‘How to taste cheese like a pro’ and can be modified to suit specialist dietary requirements. Flavour supplies all the cheese, bread, chutneys and wine and prices start from a very reasonable £25 per person.

A typical tasting would start with canapés with a fresh cheese and an aperitif. Then there could be a cooked shared cheese with bread. This would then be followed by 5-6 cheese tastings where you learn about the history of the cheese, where it’s made and how to keep it. Interspersed with this, are some fun food-based games. Finally, there are another 4-5 blue cheeses with accompaniments and Louisa assures us that even people who don’t like blue cheese are usually converts by the end of the evening.

A cheese tasting is a truly original way to spend a hen party and promises both fun and sophistication. For further information see www.flavourtastings.co.uk
