Tell us about the day.
When I woke up on the big day, I was emotional because I was going to marry the man I love and I knew that a big part of my family had come over from Brazil just to see me get married.
When did you find your dream dress?
I was in love with high neck dresses, but it was really difficult to find exactly what I was looking for until I got to Emma Draper’s shop, Love Bridal Boutique. I fell in love with a lace jacket by Mia Mia and then I chose a lace dress by Heritage Bridal. I borrowed my veil from my grandmother – she used it at her wedding 60 years ago.
How did you feel when you were walking down the aisle?
When I was walking down the stairs with my dad, my heart was exploding with happiness, the only thing I wanted was to see Mike’s face. The ceremony was really natural and special. I was a bit nervous because I had to sayeverything in English but everything went well.
Tell us about the reception.
The reception was special because we could enjoy spending time with our guests – a lot of people had come a long way just to spend the day with us and our photographer, Jonny Draper, understood that we didn’t want to spend hours taking formal pictures. Jonny just captured the day as it happened.
What was your decor, and colour scheme?
The décor for the wedding breakfast was colourful hydrangeas. The colour scheme was pastel shades – mainly lavender. The cake had three tiers with the bottom of chocolate, the middle of vanilla with strawberry jam and the top fruit decorated with our silhouettes.
Did you try to reflect your culture through the menu?
The food was made by the hotel and my favourite part was the dessert – chocolate tart with pudding and vanilla ice cream. The speeches were amazing, Mike’s speech was very emotional, but the funniest part was when the two best men, Louis Alexander and Ross Gardner, did a parody of Oasis’s Wonderwall. They also tried to do part of the speech in Portuguese which was really funny. We had a samba school as entertainment – I wanted to show a bit of my culture and we thought our guests would like to see something different.
What was your first dance song choice?
Our DJ Russ Cooper came over from Dubai (he is one of Mike’s best friends). Our first dance was a Talking Heads track called This Must Be The Place. This is the first song that Mike sent to me when we were dating.
