A love of the Yorkshire Dales inspired Ryan and Victoria’s rustic wedding in a tipi on Almscliffe Crag

From the moment we started planning our wedding we wanted the day to reflect our personalities and to involve as many of our family and friends as possible.
We wanted the day to have a rural feel, as I was brought up on a farm in North Yorkshire and Ryan is from the valleys of South Wales. I have always loved the views from Almscliffe Crag and luckily the farmer who owns the land surrounding the crag is a friend.
We wanted the whole day to feel like a rustic country party, which inspired the meadow flowers, homemade hessian table runners and the hay bales outside for everyone to sit on and enjoy the cocktails and canapés.
I loved every moment of the morning, getting ready. Finally, it was time for everyone to leave for the ceremony, leaving my dad and me behind, and it suddenly felt very real. He drove me in his vintage car and talked about boring things like engines and fuel injectors the whole way to keep my nerves from getting the better of me.
The nerves finally subsided when I was standing at the end of the aisle, facing Ryan. We wrote our own vows and kept them a secret so had no idea what the other was going to say, making the ceremony really special and personal.
Ryan drove us back to the reception, which I think was the most nerve-wracking part of the day for him, as he was in charge of both my dad’s beloved car, and his beloved daughter.
Coming from a food obsessed family, with a caterer for a brother, (James Brown), the wedding menu was high up on our list of priorities. After hours of discussion about our favourite foods and including the social element of ‘sharing dishes’ based on local produce, we settled on a Yorkshire seafood sharing platter, Moroccan-spiced Nidderdale lamb and breads and dips, followed by an apple galette with salted caramel sauce and Brymor ice cream.
We started the festivities with my favourite cocktail, a porn star martini. The rest of the day (and night) was filled with great speeches, lots of eating, drinking, music, dancing and a good old Welsh sing-song led by Ryan, his brother Sean and dad Darrell.
