Ross marries Karina
WHEN soldier Ross Meehan married Karina Meehan in Harpenden it marked a remarkablethird generation of family weddings at St Nicholas Church.
For not only did Mrs Gladys Pearson, Ross’s grandmother, marry at the church but so did her three brothers and subsequently her daughter and his mother Jane and his aunt Ann.
L/Cpl Sapper Meehan of the Regimental Engineers, to give Ross his full title, has been in the army since 2005 and has served two tours in Afghanistan and until recently was stationed in Germany.
By complete coincidence his new bride Karina, who is Australian but they met in London, already had the same surname before they wed.
The couple agreed that they would like to keep up the family tradition of marrying at St Nicholas Church where they wed surrounded by members and friends of the Herts Theatre Club as well as their respective families, many members of whom had travelled from Australia.
Gladys, who lives in Harpenden and described herself as a “very proud grandmother,” said: “My husband and I have been married 58 years and Ross says that is a lucky charm. It was absolutely wonderful. The sun shone from the start and it was a lovely day.”
Ross and Karina will be moving to Cambridge where he is to be stationed next.
