Having booked their flights through Thomas Cook, Andrew Aitchison and Sharon Cook feared the worst when they were left stranded in Liverpool following the travel agent's collapse - just days before they were due to fly out for their Las Vegas wedding.
However, in a turn of events, Andrew and Sharon's wedding venue Caesars Palace and Delta Air Lines stepped in to fly the couple and their 14 guests out to Las Vegas in business class. They received a Caesars Palace Royal Greeting with Caesar and Cleopatra on arrival and the party was then escorted to their accommodation which had been upgraded to the newly renovated Palace Tower. But the VIP treatment didn't stop there...
The wedding went ahead, with the couple exchanging vows amid palm trees and Roman architecture at the Venues Garden Chapel in Caesars Palace. And as the ceremony drew to a close, resident headliner of Caersar's Palace Colosseum theatre Rod Stewart made a surprise appearance to the shock of the bride, groom and all in attendance.
Rod made a short speech before performing an acoustic version of Have I Told You Lately, backed by three string musicians. He then invited the entire wedding party to celebrate Andrew and Sharon's nuptials at his greatest hits show two days later.
Still in shock, Sharon said: "We just can't believe it. These things don't happen to normal people like us. I had just said 'I do' and there's Rod Stewart. He made me feel so special, what a wonderful man. We'll never forget this."
