A new report from 77 Diamonds has revealed celebrity engagement trends
According to new research from 77 Diamonds, the average cost of a celebrity engagement ring hit £1 million for the first time in 2016. Analysts audited 100 recent celebrity proposals, from Kate Middleton to Kim Kardashian, with key areas including cut, carat, metal and style taken into consideration.
White gold was the metal of choice throughout 2016, compared to the previous trend of platinum rings that lasted from 2013-2015. Oval cut diamonds were a celebrity favourite in 2013 and 2014; since then, however, emerald has been the preferred cut. Furthermore, cost per carat has changed dramatically since 2014, with celebrities spending much more on diamond quality than in previous years.
The research also suggests that celebrity engagements peak during August, December and January. The preferred proposal places vary per profession, with athletes such as Rory McIlroy favouring proposing in France, while musicians such as Justin Timberlake opting for the USA.
By looking at the average net worth of celebrities getting engaged, the research found that you would need a minimum of £281k to be eligible to appear in the data. Of the couples who are still married in 2017, the average price of their rings was £489,108. Of those who have since split, the average price of their rings was £821,300.
