Online travel agent opodo.co.uk has unveiled research into the perfect British honeymoon
According to new research by online travel agent opodo.co.uk, Brits should look to save £2,125 in order to afford their dream honeymoon, with the Maldives topping the honeymoon wish list followed by Mauritius and Aruba. The survey also found that the majority of British couples are willing to travel an average of 11 hours for the perfect honeymoon, and would like to spend an average of 12 days there once they arrive.
Social media was shown to be the main influence on 18-25 year olds, with 38% saying they would refer to it to help select their honeymoon destination. Similarly, 16% would take inspiration from where their favourite celebrities have honeymooned.
With the Maldives rated as the number one honeymoon location, it’s no surprise that the majority of Brits named going to the beach as their top honeymoon activity choice. Sight-seeing is the second-most popular activity, followed by visiting the spa. In contrast, however, one in ten Brits said they would consider going skiing on their itinerary, and one in five would try sky-diving.
When it comes to local cuisine, 78% said they would want to taste the local flavours while on honeymoon, and 77% said that good food is essential. Almost a quarter said they would want to learn how to cook the local cuisine so they can recreate the experience at home. However, for 75% of Brits the secret of a perfect honeymoon is simple – find the right balance of romance, relaxation and adventure.
Robert McNamara, head of UK at eDreams ODIGEO, says: “Most people only plan on going on a honeymoon once in their lifetime, so it’s important they get it right. Before you go, think about the places you’ve always wanted to visit or the things you’ve longed to do, and build a trip that you and your partner will remember for the rest of your life.”
