A Fresh Prince of Bel Air inspired performance has claimed the title of the nation's favourite wedding speech
Best men Kevin Lake and Craig Adlington, from Scunthorpe, have triumphed in the 2016 QHotels Wedding Speech Awards.
Paying their respects to their best friend Phil Lusby and new wife Wendy, the duo's speech featured cheeky anecdotes and jokes before launching into a personalised rendition of the renowned Fresh Prince of Bel Air rap.
Detailed and entertaining with perfect comedic timing, the speech offered all the qualities to claim the top spot in the QHotels’ 2016 Wedding Speech Awards.
Kevin’s speech received the most votes from five shortlisted entries, selected by QHotels’ expert judging panel, including Robin Bayley from Wedding Speech Guru.
Commenting on his speech, Kevin said: “I was so shocked to find out that we’d won. The speech went down really well on the day, but I didn’t think we’d win an award for it."
He continued: “As soon as we found out we’d be giving a joint best man’s speech, we knew it had to be something really special and memorable. We loved the idea of having a musical element to the speech, so we used the theme tune to Fresh Prince of Bel Air and rewrote the lyrics to make it really personal.”
QHotels’ marketing director, Claire Rowland, said: “Singing and musical speeches have continued to be a huge trend in this year’s awards. We also noticed more brides and bridesmaids breaking tradition by making their own speech, including the emotional serenade by a bridesmaid in second place, as well as the moving speech from a new bride in third place."
