I’ve always suffered from ‘princess syndrome’, so when it came time to decide on a wedding venue I knew there was only one place I’d want to marry my Prince Charming.
Warwick Castle has held a magical place in my heart since I was a child, believing the castle was in fact our rightful family home. Finding my dress was also incredibly easy; it does help when your maid of honour works in a bridal boutique. It was hip hugging and glamorous, and as Ty only had one request, no puffy meringue Big Fat Gypsy-style dresses, I thought he’d love it too. Make sure you have multiple bridesmaids, they will be your toilet lifeline, make-up bag holder, drinks carrier, tissue supplier etc. In my opinion, being a good bridesmaid is like dealing with a sergeant major who has PMS, all with a smile on your face.
After looking at some of Matt Gillespie’s previous work, we knew we wanted him to photograph our big day. He is more edgy and editorial, rather than traditional.
On the morning of the wedding I was surprisingly calm, the ceremony wasn’t until 5pm, so I had plenty of time to get ready, but as 4pm approached, I suddenly felt my calmness turn to panic. Driving up through the magnificent gates to my fairytale castle with my father at my side, my panic turned to sheer excitement at the prospect of marrying my best friend. Walking down the aisle with my father was an incredible feeling. Seeing Ty waiting for me, looking so handsome, with a huge smile on his face, made me want to get the vows out of the way so I could get to the kissing part.
After the ceremony, we had a champagne reception in the Garden Conservatory and our wedding breakfast in the Great Hall. Our first dance was to our song, I Only Have Eyes for You, by the Flamingos. It was very romantic and emotional. I really wouldn’t change a thing about the day. It was truly perfect from start to finish.
