Planning your wedding? The honeymoon is just as important!

Planning the perfect honeymoon is nearly as difficult as planning the wedding itself, but luckily for local brides and grooms, there are a number of companies in Suffolk and North Essex on hand to help.

One such company is local independent travel agent Fred. Olsen Travel, which has been established for more than 25 years, and is sponsoring the EADT Wedding Show at Seckford Hall near Woodbridge this Sunday, March 9.

The company has grown considerably since it was established in 1988 and now has a number of branches across East Anglia. It offers a wide range of travel services and can create completely bespoke trips for its clients - from cruises and luxury long-haul holidays to UK-based holidays and short city breaks.

For brides and grooms, the team of specialist advisers at Fred. Olsen Travel can arrange all aspects of a honeymoon or a wedding abroad, giving couples peace of mind that their extra-special holiday will go according to plan.

“Last year we celebrated our 25th anniversary on the high street,” Fred. Olsen Travel marketing manager, Hiedi Hutchinson said. “We started in Ipswich and we’ve now grown to incorporate seven branches across East Anglia. We’re always looking to expand and increase our presence on the high street and in 2013 we acquired TravelQuest in Woodbridge.”

In Hiedi’s opinion, such expansion has only been made possible due to the business’s strong focus on personal service.

“The success of our business is down to the customer service, the knowledge and the focus of our staff,” she said. “We constantly ensure that our staff have the opportunity to travel and experience the products first hand. We genuinely believe that our staff are the most knowledgeable on the high street.

“Also, being independent means we’re not aligned to any single operator so we make sure we find the right holiday for our clients.”

This is particularly true for brides and grooms on the hunt for the perfect conclusion to their wedding and for those looking for the ideal location to get married abroad.

“Our weddings and honeymoon specialists build up a long term relationship with the client as they’re often with them for a long time,” Hiedi said. “It’s not a one off consultation – they might be spending weeks or months making sure that they create the right holiday for them.”

Indeed, the team at Fred. Olsen Travel can work to create a totally bespoke package for your wedding or honeymoon – so whether you fancy a safari in Africa, a week on the beach in Mauritius, a city-break in Italy or a holiday in England, they can help.

Nicola Atkinson is the wedding and honeymoon specialist and branch manager at the Ipswich office and in her opinion, it’s really important to talk to an expert about these important choices.

“For the majority of our customers, their honeymoon is their once in a lifetime holiday,” she said. “They’re probably never going to spend that much money on a holiday again so it’s really important that it’s special.

“There’s so much choice nowadays, it can be quite overwhelming and I think that’s why people love the fact that we have overseas wedding and honeymoon specialists and they can speak to someone who really knows what they’re talking about.

“Sometimes if you’re spending a lot of money, it’s pretty scary pressing the ‘send’ or ‘accept’ button on the internet so it’s good to go in and see someone and double check that you’re making the right decisions,” she added.

“I’ve had the opportunity to experience many of the top selling wedding and honeymoon destinations, so I can tell people first hand what it’s like, what the drawbacks are and can even recommend certain hotels.”

And, of course, this expert knowledge is really vital if you’re thinking of getting married abroad. “The legalities of getting married abroad can be really tricky,” Hiedi explained. “There are so many different laws and requirements that apply to different countries. Our staff are fully trained and experienced in all of this and can help make sure that you avoid any complications.”

Fred. Olsen Travel also offers a gift voucher service for guests which means that friends and family can contribute to the honeymoon as part of their gift.
