When I woke up on the wedding day, I wasn’t nervous, just thoroughly happy and excited. I wore a Sophia Tolli ‘Fergie’ dress and my bouquet was made of deep purple vanda orchids, with some extra material from my dress as a ruffle around the edge. Both my late nans’ wedding rings were in a little bag at the back, along with my ‘something blue’ charm from mum.
I deliberated over whether or not to do my make-up myself and decided in the end to opt for a stylist who was amazing. I think poor Karolina Scheepers probably had the most stressful job of the day as she was doing hair and make-up for me and mum, plus my two bridesmaids’ hair.
The walk down the aisle was surreal, as if I was having an out-of-body experience. My dad brought me back to earth by standing on my dress. Chris would later do the same thing walking back the other way! Exchanging our vows was a very special moment and having all of our family and friends, the people who mean so much to us, in one room, all sharing in our happiness was amazing.
We had our speeches before the meal so that the speakers could relax a bit. Our cake was stunning. We designed it by picking out the features of my wedding dress, the bottom layer featured the ruffles, the middle layer used the leaf design from the wallpaper at Nonsuch, and the top layer had a sweeping ribbon made of icing with a diamante brooch attached. Perched on top were replicas of the beautiful flowers made of icing.
When we were looking into wedding photography we were surprised at the prices we were quoted. We had toyed with the idea of asking a friend to do it, but I can honestly say it was worth every last penny.
We also nearly didn’t have the day filmed. In the end mum and dad talked us into having it done and paid for it as a wedding gift. Our wedding album and film are the two things we really cherish now, and I’m glad we didn’t cut corners here.
Our DJ was fantastic. Chris, is a rock fan and a bit of a music snob, so had gone through our preferred playlists at length. I had to chuckle when I came downstairs to the cheesy tones of YMCA. Chris was having a ball nevertheless! Another highlight was seeing dad leading everyone in a conga around Nonsuch Mansion to Tony Christie’s Amarillo.
