I knew from an early stage I wanted a rainbow-themed wedding as I love bright colours. We also knew we wanted our reception at the Hare and Hounds, as that is where Alex proposed.
I was a little nervous, but very excited on the morning of our wedding. Alex sent me three roses three days before the wedding, two roses, two days before the wedding and one rose the day before. He also got my brother to give me a diamond bracelet on the morning of wedding as my ‘something new’ and a note saying “meet you at the altar”. I got my maid of honour, Louise to deliver a present for Alex on the morning. It was a watch with a note saying, “here’s a little prezzie to make sure you’re at the altar on time.”
I walked down the aisle with my dad as the string quartet played Pachelbel’s Canon in D. It was exactly how I’d always pictured it and was an amazing feeling.
After the church service we set off in a horse and carriage to the reception, but on the way we stopped as I had organised for a bright blue Ford Mustang (the car Alex has always wanted) to meet us. The chauffeur even allowed him to drive it to the reception.
Our invitations had rainbow ribbons and our bridesmaids’ dresses were in the different colours of the rainbow with the ushers wearing cravats to match, made by my aunty Christine. The flowers were done by my uncle Ken and our favours were decorated in rainbow colours and acted as place names as well. Each table sign had a little pot of gold at the end (like any good rainbow) with chocolate gold coins and our cake, made by my aunty Wendy, consisted of mini-cakes with rainbow ribbon and a top layer with rainbow centre.
We had a string quartet playing at our drinks reception and after the meal our friend Harry sang. The weather was so lovely we were able to sit outside and listen to him.
In the evening we had a DJ, a rainbow sweet buffet and finished the night with a colourful firework show.
