A recent stufy of 6,000 adults found that 7% will get engaged in February, with 3% of these proposals happening on Valentine’s Day.
However, despite February's reputation as the month of romance, this is not the most popular time of year to get engaged. December, September and July are the months more likely to see people get down on one knee.
The research also showed that Brits splash out an average of £1,060 on the engagement ring and a further £768 on the wedding ring.
Adam Powell, chief operating officer at Policy Expert, commented: “Roses are red, violets are blue and make sure you put your ring on your home insurance too. Engagement rings can cost thousands of pounds while also holding huge sentimental value, but can easily go missing or be misplaced. Newlyweds or anyone planning a proposal should check their home insurance policy includes 'away from home' cover to avoid an expensive ordeal.”
Losing a ring in the garden or being accidently thrown away, hoovered up and hidden by children were other ways in which couples have seen their engagement ring go missing.
