Our day, our way

The wedding of Dan Edwards and Jules Barcas at The Great Tythe Barn was a relaxed, fun event for all

From the beginning I knew I wanted a princess dress. After losing my mother 15 years ago and having no family close by, I went on the hunt by myself and found my amazing Maggie Sottero ‘Paris’ dress in Rosella Gowns in Cirencester.

After looking at several venues we found The Great Tythe Barn in Tetbury and loved it straight away. It’s a gorgeous and tranquil setting with such a lovely, relaxed vibe.

The morning of the wedding was so much fun, I felt totally relaxed. The only thing I felt nervous about was walking down the aisle because I wasn’t sure my dress would fit with my dad as well. I was excited to see Dan standing there waiting for me at the end – although he looked petrified.

Our colour scheme was a mixture of fuchsia/cerise and cream and instead of flowers, I chose crystal wishing trees as centrepieces. My six-year-old son, Bailey, designed our invitations to add a personal touch and I used this logo on the table numbers and seating plan cards. I bought a second summery dress and flip-flops to change into before the wedding breakfast due to the heat and it was the best decision I made.

We didn’t want traditional photos, but cool, slightly outrageous ones and that is exactly what we got. We climbed under barbed wire to get our corn field shots and it was worth every second. We had such a blast and the photos speak for themselves.

Once our cake was cut in the evening, we went straight into our first dance. We chose All the Way, sung by Frank Sinatra and Celine Dion. Our evening entertainment was a Frank Sinatra/DJ impersonator. His name was Jim McAllister and we found him through Alive Network. We also hired a photo booth from Blue Goose and everyone loved it. It was such great fun.
