There could be more Valentine's proposals on the horizon than we expected...
A staggering 1,260,000 men could be popping the question this Valentine's Day, new research has reported.
The survey of more than 2,000 UK adults conducted by jewellery retailer Diamond Heaven sought to reveal the public's perceptions about a Valentine’s Day proposal.
Of the male respondents, 5% stated they’d like to propose on the big day, implying there is a potentially 1,260,000* men that could be due to get down on one knee this month.
Further findings included:
- 1 in 10 women would like to be proposed to on Valentine’s Day
- 21% of people who are already engaged or married were proposed to on the 14th of February
- Londoners and people in the West Midlands are most likely to get engaged this year
- 10% of 25 to 34-year-olds are hoping to get engaged on Valentine's Day
However, despite 27% sharing their view that a Valentine's engagement was romantic, 29% expressed their disapproval - stating that they thought it was cliché and another 20% claiming it unoriginal.
Nicholas Carter, head of retail and development at Diamond Heaven says: “As a jewellery seller we always see a peak around Valentine’s Day, but it’s interesting to see just how many people could potentially be proposing to their partner this year. Following from the engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, we’re predicting to see sales of three stone rings to be especially favoured this year."
