Michelle Paterson, hair manager at Pouts & Pinups in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, offers her five favourite bridal hairstyles for autumn/winter weddings taking place this year.

1. The low pony

One of my favourite on-trend bridal hairstyles for AW17 is the low ponytail. This look is chic and elegant and looks especially great when hair has been styled into loose waves before being put into a pony, giving it a more romantic look. Ponytails are great as there are styles to suit everyone, whether you want to have a textured ponytail or a more sleek style. Hair accessories are great for completing the look. The ribbon is one of the most on-trend bridal accessories of the season and they fit perfectly with this look by securing the ponytail and adding a feminine edge.

2. Buns and chignons

Buns and chignons are also popular bridal hairstyles for AW17. The chignon is a classic and looks great when worn low, whereas a bun can be worn low with some sections of hair left out for a relaxed vibe or worn high for a more sleek, polished look. Again, these looks can be paired with on-trend accessories such as embellished headbands and bejewelled brooches.

3. Boho waves

Big bouncy curls that have been popular with brides in previous years have been replaced with more relaxed, effortless waves for AW17. This is a very romantic look, which can be achieved either by using product, such as a texturising spray in natural hair, or by using flat irons or curlers. I’d always recommend brushing the hair out after using flat irons or curlers to give it a softer finish.

4. Sleek up or down 'do

Super sleek hair that was popular in 2016 and all through spring/summer 2017 also remains popular for autumn/winter 2017, particularly amongst brides. This hairstyle looks especially great when slicked back to keep the hair off the face and is great for brides who want a more modern look.

5. Half-up, half-down

Relaxed half-up-dos are another on-trend hairstyle for brides, particularly those who have opted for a more boho themed wedding or dress. With relaxed, tousled waves and the top section of the hair effortless tied loosely at the back of your head, this look is fairly easy to create. This look is relaxed and carefree, therefore the hair can be a bit messier. Finish with a flower hair accessory.
