New Year's Eve revealed as best time to propose

Are you expecting a New Year's Eve proposal?

A new survey by vintage jewellery specialists William May has revealed that the British public believe that New Year is the best time to propose.

Almost half of respondents (48%) chose New Year's Eve as the best day of the year to propose. The Christmas period was also a favoured holiday on which to pop the question with 47% of the vote, although while women chose Christmas Eve, men preferred the idea of Christmas Day.

The age of respondents also proved a factor; while all ages were in agreement that New Year's Eve was the best time to propose, more 18-34 year-olds chose Christmas Day as their second choice than the 35 and 65+ year-olds who would rather December 24th.

To assist those looking to propose at Christmas, William May has put together an Ultimate Guide to Picking the Perfect Christmas Engagement Ring.

Nick Withington, managing director of William May, said: “If you’re planning to propose, then picking the ring you’re going to do it with is the most important decision. You can convey so much in a ring; it stands for who they are as a person, so don’t be afraid to really go for something different if that’s what suits them."

“You only get to propose to your partner once, so make sure everything is perfect and that all the right elements are there. There’s a true art to picking the ring. Our guide calls on the experts to help you create a moment that they’ll treasure forever.”
